Technical University of Munich (TUM), Germany

Prof. Dr. Bernhard Küster is a German biochemist and proteomics researcher who holds the position of Professor of Proteomics and Bioanalytics at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). With over 25 years of experience in the field of proteomics, he is renowned for his expertise in the development and application of mass spectrometry-based techniques for the analysis of proteins. Prof. Küster earned his PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Tübingen in 1994. He then worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California, Berkeley, where he focused on developing novel mass spectrometry-based techniques for protein analysis. Upon returning to Germany, he established his own research group at the Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry in Martinsried, where he continued his work on proteomics.   In 2006, Prof. Küster joined the faculty at TUM, where he leads the Chair of Proteomics and Bioanalytics. His research focuses on developing and applying proteomics technologies for the analysis of complex biological systems, including the identification and quantification of proteins, protein interactions, and post-translational modifications.   Prof. Küster is a highly cited researcher in the field of proteomics and has been named a "Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analytics every year since 2014. He has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including the prestigious HUPO Discovery Award in Proteomics and the Bayerischer Maximiliansorden für Wissenschaft und Kunst. He is also a fellow of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) and the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina.
